Labor & Workforce
Dallas residents like working. Approximately 71 percent of Dallas residents over the age of 16 are in the labor pool, which exceeds 1.1 million [1]. The US average participation rate is 66 percent. Dallas also has one of the youngest labor pools in the United States. The median age in Dallas is 32.6 years compared to the U.S. average of 36 years. Within the state of Texas, Dallas is home to 27 percent of all workers.
The Dallas workforce is responsible for one-third of all products and services produced in the state of Texas. Dallasites are so productive that if their gross area product were measured as a country, the City of Dallas would rank 19th in the world.
Not only is the workforce in Dallas younger and more energetic, it is more diverse. Migration contributes significantly to the labor force in Dallas. Much of the city’s population growth — over 10,000 net new residents per year [2] — is domestic or international immigration.
