Downtown Initiatives Group

Downtown Dallas... A priority asset that will dramatically increase the vibrancy of the City and the perception of Dallas locally, nationally and globally. The Downtown Initiatives Group oversees and contributes to projects that will enhance or redevelopment Downtown and the immediate surrounding area.

The citizens of Dallas have envisioned Downtown as a collection of districts that encompass economic vitality, quality of life and transportation functionality. We are in pursuit of this defined vision that will help Downtown Dallas realize its potential. Realizing Downtown's potential is a critical step in the City of Dallas's growth.

In 2005, a privately funded study determined that in order for the vision to become reality the area must reach a critical mass. This is defined as the level needed for the specified goal to occur. Continuing to reach critical mass will ensure the vibrancy and future of Downtown.

As a result, the Downtown Initiatives Group is on a mission to achieve the critical mass goals set forth by the study as well as the general plan goals in order for Downtown Dallas to become the collection of vital and self-sustaining neighborhood/business districts the public has envisioned.

Goals to reach Critical Mass:

  • 10,000 Residential Units
  • 250,000 Square Feet of Mixed, Unique Retail
  • Strong Physical Connections to Surrounding Neighborhoods

Other General Goals:

  • Improve the access between and within the Uptown and Downtown areas.
  • Improve the image of the Downtown Connection Area.
  • Support redevelopment of the existing building supply.
  • Develop a more diverse mixture of land uses.
  • Increase open space and recreational opportunities.
  • Incentivize catalyst project(s) to accelerate reaching a critical mass of residential units, retail establishments, and public amenities.
  • Facilitate private development for the public purpose of developing and diversifying the economy of the Districts.

In order to achieve the above objectives we need you! We have created this site as a resource guide to help us connect with you and you connect with us. It is through our public-private partnerships that we plan to achieve the goal of Downtown becoming a thriving neighborhood business district.

“For Downtown Dallas, time is truly of the essence.”
